Where could we be heading?

Worst case

Half of entry-level office jobs gone?

An AI CEO warned AI could wipe out half of entry-level white-collar jobs and push unemployment to 10% to 20% within one to five years.

Wall Street

15 million Americans displaced?

Goldman Sachs now projects about 15 million U.S. workers, over 9% of the workforce, displaced by AI over ten years. It had said 6% to 7%.

Global

92 million jobs displaced by 2030?

41% of employers worldwide plan to cut staff as AI automates tasks.

Best case

Is the first rung already breaking?

Even economists who see little effect on total jobs so far find entry-level hiring falling in AI-exposed fields like software and customer service.

What is our federal government doing in response?

Trump's December 2025 executive order “aims to promote 'United States leadership in Artificial Intelligence' by preempting state AI laws and regulations,” including an “AI Litigation Task Force . . . whose sole responsibility shall be to challenge State AI laws.” — Gibson Dunn
