Here are some things other communities have demanded of their town, state, or federal leaders:
Make Big Tech pay its own power bills.
Create a separate rate class for data centers so families never pay for the power plants and power lines Big Tech needs.
Protect our water.
Require every data center to publicly report how much water and power it uses, and give local communities a public hearing and a real say before any project is approved.
End secret deals and blank-check tax breaks.
Ban nondisclosure agreements that hide projects from the public, and require states to report what every data center tax break costs taxpayers.
Keep our right to protect ourselves.
Oppose any federal effort to block states from passing their own AI safety laws.
Protect our kids.
Hold AI companies legally responsible when their tools are used to create sexual images of children or when their chatbots harm minors.
Put workers first.
Require advance notice before companies replace workers with AI, and invest in retraining for the people affected.
Until these protections are law, no new hyperscale data centers should be approved.
